Welcome to Newcastle Central Mosque

Established in 1970 Newcastle Central Mosque is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is situated a stone’s throw away from the heart of the city centre in the Elswick area, which is diverse and rich in culture and
heritage.

The mosque is used by many of the Muslims that work and study in the city centre. It is frequented by visitors from local schools, colleges, other educational institutions and community/faith groups from Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Our Ethos

Our ethos is to provide a lifelong learning and development opportunity alongside addressing the social and spiritual needs of Muslims, helping them positively contribute to the diverse Britain we live in today. The mosque works closely with Imams, teachers and community organisations, we aim to accommodate every aspect of the needs of the individual and wider community.

The Mosque is not only a place of worship for the local Muslim community, it has also held and continues to hold many important events and conferences with internationally renowned keynote speakers that have provided benefit for the many Muslims across the whole of the UK.

Aims & Objectives

  • The advancement of the Islamic faith in Newcastle
  • To advance education, in particular, Islamic education
  • To provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants of Newcastle
  • To assist the Muslims in adopting the Islamic way of marriages
  • To promote religious goodwill and brotherly relations among Muslims and to provide a social framework for Muslim unity and co-operation
  • To adopt all legitimate and honourable means in conformity with the principles of Islam to raise funds for maintaining the Mosque and establishing an Islamic Educational/Cultural centre
  • To assist in the proper Burial of the deceased subject to the law of the land

The Board of Directors meet on the second Thursday of every month. These meetings are open to the public.
